The incoming and outgoing correspondence of Mamie Roberts Behrens includes a series of letters by A. L. Cull ("Lincoln") of Valparaiso, Indiana, who wrote about education, politics, and daily life, and letters from other male and female friends, who wrote about housekeeping, Mamie's teaching career, the possibility of moving west, baseball, and aging. Some writers discussed the 1892 presidential election, including Edgar Frederick Northway, who shared his plan to vote in Missouri, where he believed his vote would be more influential (May 29, 1892). In a letter dated May 13, 1898, one writer told the Roberts family of recent military movements and the possibility of a renewed call for soldiers. A group of later letters, written by an unknown person in 1901-1902, concerns home life, the author's social life, and President McKinley's assassination.
