University of Michigan graduate and Republican governor of Michigan from 2011 to 2018. The collection documents Snyder's two terms as the 48th Governor of Michigan. Materials include audio and video recordings, briefings, correspondence and memoranda, dashboards, meetings agenda and minutes, press releases, reports, subject files, and other records documenting Snyder's gubernatorial career and the work of his administration.

The Rick Snyder papers document the activities and policies of the executive branch of Michigan's state government during Rick Snyder's two terms as governor.

The collection documents a wide range of the administration's activities. It is particularly strong in documenting the governor's efforts to stimulate Michigan's economy and urban centers, as well as the governor's actions in the areas of education and the environment.

Communications, 2005-2018 (majority within 2011-2018)

The Communications series contains materials from the Snyder administration's communications division. It was responsible for media and public relations for the Governor's Office and covered local, state, and national issues. Materials include announcements, audio recordings, briefings, correspondence, presentations, press releases, summaries of media coverage, talking points, transcripts, and videos. Also included are emails and documents released from the Governor's office pertaining to the Flint water crisis.

The series is divided into three subseries: Governor, First Lady Sue Snyder, and Social Media Archives.

Many of the videos in Governor subseries were posted to the Governor's YouTube channel and cover a variety of topics, including issues related to the cities of Detroit and Flint, the Detroit River International Crossing bridge, Michigan's economic conditions and financial status, recordings of town halls, state of the state addresses, recordings related to various bills and legislation.

The First Lady Sue Snyder subseries documents Sue Snyder's activities in her role as First Lady of Michigan. She focused on the health, safety, and wellness of Michigan women, children, and students. Of note are the materials related to the First Lady's initiative bring awareness to and end campus sexual assault.

Snyder's first communications director was Geralyn Lasher, who served in this capacity from 2010 to 2013. Jeff Holyfield replaced Lasher in 2013. In 2014, Holyfield was succeeded by Jarrod Agen, who was selected as Snyder's chief of staff in 2015. Meegan Holland took over from Agen in 2015-2016. In 2016, Snyder replaced Holland with Ari Adler, in response to the Flint water crisis.

The Social Media Archives subseries includes archived content from the Snyder administration's various social media accounts.

Legal, 1999-2018 (majority within 2011-2018)

The Legal series contains material from Snyder's legal division. The division was responsible for protecting the powers of the Governor's office and help the Governor achieve his policy objectives. This included taking responsibility for ethics and conflict of interest inquiries, vetting judicial candidates, drafting executive reorganization orders, and maintaining a cooperative relationship with the Attorney General's office, among other responsibilities. Travis Weber served as Snyder administration's Chief Legal Counsel.

Materials in this series include agenda, correspondence, meeting notes, memoranda of understanding and other memoranda, presentations, executive orders, and the Detroit Bankruptcy court documents.

Lieutenant Governor, 1998-2019 (majority within 2011-2018)

The Lieutenant Governor series contains materials from Brian Calley's office. Calley was the 63rd Lieutenant Governor. Gene Lutherloh served as the chief of staff. The lieutenant governor is an elected constitutional officer, is the second ranking officer of the executive branch, and is first in line to succeed the Governor of Michigan. Lieutenant governor presides over the state senate, represents the governor and the state at various local, state, and national meetings, and performs other responsibilities as delegated by the governor.

During his time in office, Calley worked toward reforming autism insurance, updating the state tax code, and eliminating the personal property tax on manufacturing equipment, among other issues. Materials in this series include select calendar entries, correspondence, news articles, op-eds, photographs, subject files, and event and summit invitations, speeches, and other related records.
