Press copies of letters out relating to all affairs of the Military Establishment. Primarily policy statements relating to organization of units. Includes information relating to salaries of personnel, appropriations, transportation, and mobilization of troops in war and peacetime, activities, training programs, competitions, and reports of special investigations. Occasionally copies of Certificates of Service are included.

Letters in to Adjutant General's Office requesting authority and permission for proper arming and equipping of military units for special occasions. Includes applications for commissions and replies about individual servicemen, December 28, 1864 through December 31, 1903. Letters dated June through December 1903, in binder marked 1904 on spine. First Volume of letters dated December 28, 1864 through December 1, 1889 marked 1866-1888 on spine.

Press copies of letters sent relating to all affairs of the board. Includes investigations of misconduct of State Troops, business relating to insane soldiers who are state charges, records of service, uniforms and equipment. Backstrip missing.

Occasionally includes printed manuals for Sharp's rifle, uniforms, and other equipment. Entry is chronological. Index to subjects in most Volume.
