Davis, Carolyne K.

The records of Carolyne K. Davis document both the wide range of her responsibilities as associate vice president as well as her professional interests and activities outside of the university, particularly in the areas of nursing, health sciences, and women's issues. Davis succeeded John Romani as associate vice president for academic affairs in 1975. She had been dean of the School of Nursing since 1973. Her files include some materials dating as far back as 1967 but are primarily from the years 1975 to 1981, at which time she resigned her post as associate vice president to accept a position with the Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C.

Davis's records are divided into three subseries: Topical Files; Schools and Colleges Files; and Legislative Files. The Topical Files and the Schools and Colleges Files contain correspondence, reports, reviews, and budget planning materials regarding the many units that were under Davis's jurisdiction. The Topical Files are also a strong source of information regarding Davis's participation in professional organizations. The Legislative Files series contains information on the University's relations with Congress and the Michigan legislature from 1977 to 1980, primarily with regard to budget appropriations and federal regulation activities in the areas of health sciences and nursing.
