Louisa Minot wrote to her daughter Mary about life in Boston and New York City. She shared news of family members, discussed her travels, and described visits to a deaf and dumb asylum for children (June 20, 1824) and an insane asylum (undated). Her letter of September 11, 1836, mentions a pet monkey. Mary wrote undated letters to her mother about her experiences in New York City, including her journey to New York, social activities, and attendance at concerts and theatrical performances; she also wrote about medical treatments she received on Staten Island. Mary also received letters from Louisa Lee, a friend in Boston, and G. de Castillio, a man who discussed his intention to visit Italy (July 25, 1842). William Minot wrote one letter to his daughter Julia about the progress of Boston's public garden (July 27, 1839).
