Photographs and Negatives
The Photographs, Slides and Negatives series consists of approximately 0.5 linear feet of photographic materials. Most of the material consists of publicity shots of Marge Piercy. The series is divided by format into Photographs, Negatives, and Outsize Photographs. The Publicity Photographs grouping (all images of Piercy) makes up the bulk of the series. Some of these photographs were taken by Ira Wood. (Contact Sheets also features professional shots of Piercy for publicity purposes.) The Events file showcases Piercy reading or speaking at various functions (currently only one image). The Other Subjects category consists primarily of photographs sent to Piercy by others. Noteworthy among them is the photograph of a World War Two-era tanker. It was sent in by a Merchant Marine veteran who was deeply moved by Piercy's realistic portrayal of the Second World War in Gone to Soldiers. One strip of negatives appears to show Piercy at home. The Outsize Photographs grouping consists of photographs too large to be housed with the rest of the photograph series. (Right now, only one item is in this subseries, a group photograph from 1999 of Piercy and others at a writers' retreat.)
