1927-1942
The papers for 1927-1942 are particularly rich. The correspondence for 1927 includes excellent letters written to his wife and brother (as well as official papers) dealing with his mission as a delegate to the International Commission of Jurists meeting in Buenos Aires. In addition, the correspondence with colleagues in Europe and the Philippines is particularly interesting. There are comments on Mussolini's Italy, the Stavisky affair in France, the early months of the Hitler regime, etc. written by political scientist living in the countries at the time. There is also a large body of correspondence dealing with the placing of refugee scholars in the United States, and illuminating the difficulties associated with this activity.
