This collection is made up of 11 military orders and letters related to Brigadier General Enoch Foote's service in the Connecticut Militia during the War of 1812. The collection contains one prewar item: Governor Roger Griswold's order, by way of Ebenezer Huntington, regarding officer resignations and discharges (October 21, 1811). Nine of the remaining items are addressed to Enoch Foote. A letter from Edward Avery to Henry May concerns orders issued by Foote (December 3, 1813). Foote's incoming orders and correspondence pertain to troop movements, public alarm about the presence of British ships in Long Island Sound, wagoners' expenses for mounting cannon, and troop pay and fines. The final 2 items concern Foote's request that Governor John Cotton Smith assign him to a different command; Smith denied, citing seniority and protocol.
