The Historical Files, 1900-1952 (bulk dates, 1900-1930; 0.3 linear feet), contain early records of the ACS, University of Michigan Section. It consists of secretary's records of the University of Michigan Section and ACS French Orphan Fund Files. The secretary's records contain minutes and financial statements of the local section. The orphan fund files consists of correspondence between the ACS, University of Michigan Section members and Michelle Pignal, a French orphan that they sponsored after World War I; and financial statements, which are mainly contributors' rosters. Materials in this series are arranged chronologically.

The University of Michigan Section Files, 1934-1961 (0.5 linear feet), the largest portion of this record group, contains correspondence relating to the local section. The correspondence has been further divided into three parts: general; election records; and local section speakers. Election records include a list of officers from 1900 to 1956. Of interest is correspondence relating to the local section speakers, which reflects the dynamic scholarly and professional activities among local section members. The speeches and talks delivered by outside speakers offered local section members opportunities to broaden professional contacts and to obtain new viewpoints on scientific and professional matters. Materials in this series are arranged chronologically.

The last series, ACS Council Meeting Files, 1949-1962 (0.2 linear feet), contains records relating to the ACS National Council Meetings. It consists of correspondence, constitutions and by-laws (amendments), minutes, newsletters and reports. These records provide a broader picture of the activities of local sections as well as the national organization. All materials are arranged chronologically.
