The Swinburne Circle
The Swinburne Circle series is comprised of the correspondence and writings of Swinburne's literary associates, friends, and family members. Literary associates include fellow writers, including members of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, and also publishers. Best represented here is Swinburne's friend and advisor, Theodore Watts-Dunton. Among the small number of manuscripts by others is an untitled 1909 critical evaluation of Swinburne and his work by William Michael Rossetti. Some of the material in this series is peripheral; for instance, the Grace Horsley Darling correspondence, which seems to have been collected by Kerr for its T.J. Wise association. Other material can only be loosely described as originating from Swinburne's friends, family, and colleagues, since it dates from a later time and merely treats Swinburne as its subject.
