Garesché family album, 1827-1832

242 pages

The Garesché family album contains poetic verses and illustrations addressed to DuPont F. and Anna L. Garesché of Philadelphia.

A fine example of the genre, the Garesché album contains verse and illustrations addressed to DuPont F. and Anna L. Garesché of Philadelphia. Intended to inspire pleasant memories and deep reflections, the quips and quotations are drawn largely from popular writers influenced by romanticism. The entries are enlivened by some well executed pencil and pen and ink sketches, including two very effective trompe l'oeuil drawings. Among the more unusual entries are two concrete poems in French, both contributed by Phillipe Bréda: "Buvons, amis"... (in the shape of a glass) and "Bouteille."
