George H. Forsyth papers, 1880-2016 (majority within 1920-1999)

George H. Forsyth (1901-1991) was an archeologist, architectural, and art historian who led archeological expeditions to Angers, France, Mount Sinai, Egypt, and countries in the Near East including Iraq, Syria, and Turkey. Forsyth was a professor at the University of Michigan, chairman of the History of Art Department and director of the Kelsey Museum. The collection is comprised of personal materials, teaching materials, and extensive documentation of George's personal travel and archeological expeditions to Europe and the Near East such as correspondence, field notes, and visual materials.

The George H. Forsyth papers primarily document Forsyth's career. The collection includes personal materials, biographical information, daybooks, family photographs, teaching and lecture notes, and extensive documentation of George's personal travel and archeological expeditions to Europe and the Near East. Material related to expeditions includes field notebooks, photographs, negatives, architectural drawings, correspondence, and manuscripts of various publication activities.

George Forsyth died prior to completing the publication of his landmark drawings of Saint Catherine's Monastery (Mount Sinai, Egypt). Publication efforts were continued posthumously by his wife, Dr. Ilene H. Forsyth, an art historian and professor at the University of Michigan.

Researchers should note that a scrapbook in this collection contains visual material with racist content; specific information is included at the item level.

Michigan Medicine Volunteer Services (University of Michigan) records, 1937-2007 (majority within 1981-1995)

Volunteer service unit established at the University of Michigan Hospital in 1941. The Volunteer Services program expanded from patient registration and guide services to encompass a number of programs and outreach activities that extend beyond the hospital. The materials in the University of Michigan Health Systems Volunteer Services collection contain information on the service beginning with its formal establishment in 1941. Items include topical files, photographs, and audiovisual materials covering programming, volunteer recruitment, and especially volunteer recognition.

The University of Michigan Health System Volunteer Services collection covers the years from 1937 to 2007. The majority of the material covers the years 1981-1995. The records include some history and establishment information, but a majority of the information deals with the annual volunteer recognition program. There is also a significant amount of photographs, including photographs of individuals volunteering as well as photographs from the annual volunteer recognition program. The collection has been organized into five series: Topical Files, Publications, Volunteer Recognition, Audio-Visual Materials, and Ephemera.

Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs (University of Michigan) records, 1981-1997, circa 2008-2014

University of Michigan office established to meet the academic and social needs of U-M students from historically underrepresented and marginalized ethnic and racial groups. Records include administrative files; materials relating to various programs and activities; and topical files. The topical files include extensive information on the yearly Hispanic Heritage Celebrations.

The records of the Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs consist of files on the administration of MESA, student, university, and community organizations, various programming, events, and activities, and topics such as student information relating to the Hispanic representative. The Hispanic Heritage Celebration is well documented in these records, as well as student organization grant applications, and the Growing Allies retreat.

Materials include correspondence, flyers, brochures, and other promotional materials, grant applications, meeting agendas, memos, minutes, PowerPoints and other presentation materials, photographs, and video.

Ramon S. Regan papers, 1953-2014 (with gaps)

Ramon S. Regan was a Detroit, Mich. lawyer. He was an active member of the Barton-McFarlane Neighborhood Association of Barton-McFarland, which is a historically Black neighborhood in Detroit, Michigan. The majority of the materials are related to the Barton-McFarlane Neighborhood Association, of which Regan was a member of the Executive Board. The collection also includes a photograph of the Civilian Conservation Corps (U.S.). Company 661 (Luzerne, Mich.); the connection between Ramon S. Regan and the Civilian Conservation Corps is unknown.

The majority of materials in the Ramon S. Regan collection are related to the Barton-McFarlane Neighborhood Association, located in the historically Black Barton-McFarland neighborhood in Detroit, Michigan. The Barton-McFarlane Neighborhood Association was founded in 1964, but most records present are from 1980 to the early 2000s.

An important issue to the association was related to the Coalition on Temporary Shelter (hereafter COTS), with most of the materials dated 2000-2004. Some issues related to COTS dealt with transitional housing for people experiencing homelessness and housing for people with disabilities.

Records types included in this collection are as follows: correspondence related thee Assocation, member registration papers (including family names and addresses), Executive Board meeting minutes, newsletters, financial records of the organization (including grant information), land deeds, flyers, memos, clippings, and a small number of photographs. The collection also includes a photograph of the Civilian Conservation Corps (U.S.). Company 661 (Luzerne, Mich.), but the connection of the Civilian Conservation Corps to Regan is unknown.

To preserve original order, most folder titles were retained when rehousing material; this being said, there many be additional related topical material in the "various organizatoinal materials" section.

Theta Delta Chi. Gamma Deuteron Charge (University of Michigan) records, 1891-2021

Gamma Deuteron Charge (chapter) of the Theta Delta Chi fraternity, instated at the University of Michigan in 1889. Records include original and digital copies of annual composite photographs of the members of the University of Michigan chapter, as well as drawings of an unbuilt fraternity house designed by Alden B. Dow. Also included are a volume of meeting minutes; an oversize ledger detailing per person costs; and an alumni register.

The Theta Delta Chi Gamma Deuteron Charge records consist of yearly composite photographs of the members of the chapter; a ledger detailing per person costs of fraternity life; and an alumni register. Particularly of note is a volume of handwritten meeting minutes which date from 1947-1956. The minutes detail the "Meetings of the Charge" and cover house events, planning, and finances, house morale and interpersonal conflicts, and other issues related to the running of the Gamma Deuteron Charge chapter. Also included in the minutes volume are treasurer notes from 1951-1972.

The collection also contains the original copies of the composite photographs, as well as digital copies. Also included are a small number of drawings of an unbuilt fraternity house that were designed by Alden B. Dow.

Westland Shopping Center records, 1965-2005 (majority within 1990-2005)

Developed by the J.L. Hudson company as one of the first enclosed shopping centers in the United States. Originally built in Nankin Township, Michigan, the area would rename itself after the shopping center and become the city of Westland. Includes photographs of events held at the shopping center during the 1980s and 1990s, video histories of Hudson's, and printed brochures and pamphlets.

The Westland Shopping Center collection primarily consists of the records of the mall during the 1990s and 2000s, although some material related to its opening date in the 1960s. Two VHS videocassettes, produced during the 1990s, provide a history of the J.L. Hudson company. Also included are pamphlets and brochures, certificates, and an issue of a magazine documenting the building and opening of the mall from 1965.

Photographs and photo albums from the 1990s and 2000s make up the bulk of the collection, depicting employees taking part in company events and performing typical job duties. The oversize volume contains photographs of staff members at Hudson company events, while an oversize framed item features a group staff photograph from the 1990s. The oversize folder houses posters with pictures of Christmas time at Westland Shopping Center which would always attract many visitors.
