Executive secretary of the American Association for Old Age Security (name later changed to American Association for Social Security.) Subject files relating to his work in behalf of the elderly poor and the unemployed worker; also collected papers of his wife Henrietta Epstein on the subject of social security.

The Abraham Epstein papers at the Bentley Historical Library provide the researcher insight into the careers of Abraham Epstein and Henrietta Epstein. Abraham Epstein's writings and portions of his correspondence demonstrate the depth of his commitment to social security and offer a look at his version of the ideal social security program. The papers, however, provide little insight into the workings of the AAOAS and AASS - organizations which were a vital and integral part of Abraham Epstein's life. It is only through study of the man and the organizations behind which he was the driving force that a thorough appreciation of his role in the social security movement can be gained.

The Abraham Epstein papers at the Michigan Historical Collections are divided into two subgroups: Abraham Epstein and Henrietta Epstein. Both subgroups are further divided into two series: Correspondence (arranged topically), and Topical Files.

Research scientist. Correspondence, scientific reports and publications, other papers, and photographs, primarily concerning her interest in the problems of nutrition and aging, including her work with the Merrill-Palmer School in Detroit, the Detroit Institute of Cancer Research, the Children's Fund of Michigan, and Grand Valley State College in Allendale; also materials relating to her membership on the White House Conference on Food, Nutrition and Health, 1969, and various White House conferences on children and youth.

The collection has been divided into the following series: Subject files (24.3 linear ft.); Lectures (0.7 linear ft.); Manuscripts of writings (0.5 linear ft.); Personal and Biographical Materials (2 linear ft.); and Published Materials (2 linear ft.). There are also three smaller series of genre materials: Photographs, Sound Recordings, and Artifacts.

Papers of R. R. Stewart, United Presbyterian missionary in India and adjunct research investigator of the University of Michigan Herbarium, and papers of his wife, Hladia Porter Stewart, educator at Kinnaird College in Lahore and later Gordon College in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Reminiscences and other autobiographical writings, correspondence, diary, articles concerning flora of India and Pakistan, and files relating to teaching and missionary work of R. R. Stewart; also letters, memoirs and poetry of Hladia Porter Stewart; and photographs

The Stewart Family Collection consists of two linear feet of documents and photos relating to the life of Ralph Randles Stewart and one linear foot relating to the life and writings of Hladia Porter Stewart. Both spent most of their lives on the northern Indian subcontinent.
