Editor of the Ann Arbor News, 1954-1976. Personal and professional correspondence, photographs, editorials, editorial topical files, and speeches; also organizational files relating to the Booth Newspaper chain and the Ann Arbor News, and to other professional, civic, and charitable organizations, notably the Michigan Press Association, the University Press Club of Michigan, and the Ann Arbor Chamber of Commerce.

Much of the material contained in the Gallagher papers pertains either to the news and editorial operations of the Ann Arbor News or to the management and business of running the newspaper. The collection has been arranged into the following series: Ann Arbor News general correspondence and memoranda; Editorials and Editorial Subject files; Articles and Speeches; Organizational files; Miscellaneous Topical Files; and Miscellaneous.

Journalist, professor in the University of Michigan Department of Communication. The series in the collection include Personal/Research, Teaching, and Departmental. Personal/Research relates to awards received, research interests and her involvement in Women in Communication, Inc. The Teaching series includes course materials for classes in journalism, later communication, and the American Culture Program. The Departmental series concerns her activities within the department of communication, including its various reorganizations.

The Marion T. Marzolf papers document not only her career in the journalism and communication at the University of Michigan, but also the curricular changes that occurred during her career. The collection has been divided into three series: Personal/Research, Teaching, and Departmental.

Wesley H. Maurer, Sr., was a professor of journalism at the University of Michigan, and served as chair of the department from 1949 to 1966. He actively critiqued the journalism field, and was very involved in improving journalism education. Maurer was instrumental in establishing the internship program at the University of Michigan, and bought newspapers to provide students with work-experience, two of which he continued to operate until his death. Maurer was also involved in promoting democracy and free speech in the community.

The Maurer collection documents Wesley H. Maurer's career as a journalist and as a teacher of journalism. The collection has been arranged into the following series: Personal; Department of Journalism Administration; Michigan Federation of Teachers; Papers and Speeches; and Teaching.
