Edward Pierce Papers, 1960s-1987, 1996

Dr. Edward Pierce was active in both medicine and politics in Michigan. He was well-known for his conception of and work at the Summit Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, a center offering medical services for low-income individuals. His political career included a seat on the Ann Arbor City Council, a term as Michigan State Senator and Mayor of Ann Arbor. The papers relate primarily to his political career, with the bulk of the papers focusing on his term as mayor of Ann Arbor from 1985 to 1987. Other papers refer to his campaigns for Congress, Senate, and governor.

The Jean C. Crump papers is comprised of two series: Election Files and Local Issues. Within the Elections series, the files are ordered chronologically and date from 1968 to 2000. The files contain newspaper clippings, LWV informational flyers, meeting agendas and minutes, notes, and voting materials. The Local Issues series relates to such topics as the county medical care facility, minor parties in Ann Arbor elections, the presidential primary, and punch card voting.

The records of the League of Women Voters of the Ann Arbor Area have been arranged into the following series: Organizational Records, 1942-1966 (mainly Mrs. Ivan Duff files); Health Care and Planning Issues, 1966-1973; Administrative, 1920-1990; Elections, 1946-1982; Issues, 1944-1981: and Topical files, 1969-1983. As the records came from different donors, there is some inevitable overlap between the various series.
