The records of the Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan are a rich resource of material, not only for the programs and activities of the Episcopal Church in western Michigan, but also for their documentation of the role of the church in the life of the various communities served by the diocese.

Records from the Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan first came to the Bentley Historical Library in 1972. Since then, the diocese has made several significant additions to their records. In 1999 the record group was reprocessed with the aim of drawing together like materials. The record group now consists of twenty-two separate series. These are: Bishop's Files, Chancellor, Treasurer, Diocesan Historiographer, Standing Committee Files, Miscellaneous Files, Diocesan Record Books, Publicity Files, Defunct Parish and Mission Churches Files, Diocesan Committee Files, Diocesan Organization Files, Diocesan Financial Records, Visual Materials, Sound Recordings, Scrapbooks, Western Michigan University (WMU) Ministry Files, Women's Organizations, Miscellaneous office and staff files Bulletins of Church Services, Church of Christ the King, Miscellaneous parish materials, and Miscellaneous diocesan materials.

Collection consists of photographs taken by photographer Fred Hammond for use by the Michigan Department of Transportation and personal photos.

Mostly black-and-white photographs depict road construction, transportation, astronomy, buildings and structures, scenes of nature, severe weather, tourist scenes, portraits, photographs of the highway patrol photo shop, and photographs of the Faith Lutheran Church in Okemos, Michigan. Collection includes oversize photos of President John F. Kennedy, Governor G. Mennen Williams, and John C. Mackie who served as the Michigan State Highway Commissioner in 1957-1964. Some Michigan Department of Transportation publications, advertisements, and newspaper clippings are also included within the collection. Photographs are all in relation to the state of Michigan.

Jack Kausch was a photographer who specialized in family portraits and historical photography. The collection includes still and moving images created and collected by Kausch throughout his career.

This collection highlights a portion of the projects that Jack Kausch completed during his photographic career. A range of subjects is covered and both original and historical photography is included. The collection is divided into two series: Photographs and Other Visual Materials.

The records have been arranged into the following series: Organizational and Administrative Records; Archivist's files; Organizational units and programs; Lutheran Church Women; Printed material; Church files; Topical files; and Visual Materials. Most of the records prior to 1962 originally came from the archives of United Lutheran Church in America.

Robert E. Schwartz was a mid-century modern architect working out of Midland, Michigan. The collection includes working drawings, sketches, and newspaper clippings of residential and commercial buildings designed.

The Robert E. Schwartz papers reflect the mid-century modern architectural design movement of the mid-20th century in the United States, especially that part of the movement that was employed in residential structures, although the collection contains drawings of his commercial structures as well. His residential structures exhibit fundamental characteristics of the Modern Movement including their simple geometric forms, lack of applied ornamentation, use of large expanses of glass to bring nature and sunlight into the structure, and their open, free-flowing floor plans. The collection has been maintained in the order received and is divided into four series: Architectural Drawings, Newspaper Clippings, Professional Papers, and Visual Material.
