This collection (56 items) is made up of letters to John and Deborah Shepard of Athens, Pennsylvania; their daughters Ruth and Letty; and Isaac Shepard of Factoryville, New York. Deborah Shepard received letters from her family in Stony Brook and Setauket, New York. Her sister Dorothy shared news of family members on Long Island and sometimes discussed her religious views. Letty Shepard corresponded with Job Shepard, Shepard A. Mount, and other friends and relatives into the late 1830s. Isaac Shepard's incoming correspondence often pertains to real property; his correspondents wrote about taxation and the consequences of not paying property taxes. An agreement (April 14, 1837) and related correspondence concern Shepard's business relationship with Isaac K. Lippincott.
