This oversized scrapbook consists of sections of Barnum, Bailey & Hutchinson circus advertising posters. The imagery includes circus tents, musical wagons (including the "Silver-Tubed Caliope" and "Sacred Chimes"), camels and horses, animal trainers, artillerymen seemingly of Middle Eastern descent (possibly part of the "Bedouin Arab" performers), acrobats, minstrel performers, African American musicians, and portraits of P. T. Barnum, J. A. Bailey, and J. L. Hutchinson.

An undated petition from eighteen men requesting admittance to the first parish in Plympton, Massachusetts, appears on the first page of an otherwise empty nineteenth-century blank book produced by Tappan & Whittemore of Boston, "Wholesale dealers in School Books, School Stationery, Drawing, Letter, Writing and Fancy Paper, Envelopes of every description, Slates, Gold and Steel Pens, Ink, Quills, Wafers, etc." It has printed covers with illustrations of Boys and girls fishing, boating, and flying kites on a riverbank, and "Lessons In Drawing" with sixteen various images of fruit, animals, body parts, and a house and boat.

The Rewards of merit collection consists of approximately 800 hand-illustrated and printed rewards of merit originating in the United States during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

The collection includes rewards of merit decorated with ink, watercolor, and fraktur art as well as lithographic and chromolithographic rewards. The bulk of materials are dated between 1830 and 1900.

Series I of the collecton contains approximately 200 rewards housed in binders that are primarily grouped around specific students and teachers. Also present is a group 100 examples of early 19th century rewards acquired from dealer Alfred P. Malpa Ephemera.
