African Americans driving wagons along riverbanks. Accommodations in Augusta and improved health. African Americans traveling to Augusta for an election, with "men on horseback to tell them how to vote." Presumed illiteracy of black voters and sympathy with whites "for not liking to be ruled by such a set."
