Abstract:
Inquiring why Stevens did not respond to his earlier letter, "whether it is owing to your failure in health, or mind, or your no longer feeling any interest or relish for my humble productions, or perhaps feel too much down hearted on account of the loss you sustained in the late fire at the State house in Montpelier." Continues to produce his "Autograph" and print with his personal press. Hoping for Stevens' ongoing patronage. Includes 1-page printed poem, "On the Inauguration of Buchanan & Breckinridge," and a 4-page copy of the March 20, 1857 "Vermont Autograph and Remarker." Includes articles relating to the Dred Scott decision in the Supreme Court, attributed to the "craven reckless integrity-sacrificing spirit of proslavery doughfaceism"; the new location of the Vermont State House and condition of the library; silver specie; and free speech.
