Background

Scope and Content:

The Goodspeed collection is divided into two series: Academics and Journalism Topics. The collection consists primarily of printouts of reports and e-mail correspondence, flyers for campus events. There are also police reports, decisions from court cases, and material acquired through Freedom of Information (FOIA) requests.

Biographical / Historical:

Robert Goodspeed is from Maine and graduated from Greely High School in 2000. He attended the University of Michigan from 2000 to 2004 and graduated with high honors in history. His honors thesis was titled "Urban Renewal in Postwar Detroit: The Gratiot Area Redevelopment Project." He also taught a mini-course in the "History of Student Activism at the University of Michigan" during the winter semester of 2004.

Goodspeed was highly involved while at the University of Michigan serving on student government, writing for The Michigan Daily, and participating in College Democrats and the U of M chapter of the ACLU. He also worked at the Blue Nile Restaurant, served on the Cool Cities Task Force, and founded the Ann Arbor news and civic website ArborUpdate.com.

He currently lives in Washington D.C., editing Dcist.com which is a city-based weblog.
