Organizational History:
A steering committee first met on November 23, 1980 to discuss plans to develop a friends support group for the [Veterans Memorial Public] Library. The group officially began in 1981. The Friends assist the Library Board in expediting the development and operation of a much needed library expansion; inform, support, aid, sponsor, encourage, and help in funding and acquisition; help foster a favorable climate for support for the library; and offer advice, suggestions, and reflections of their own and community sentiments. Since 1981 the Friends of the Veterans Memorial library has maintained a supporting role to the library and financially assisted the library with programs, furniture replacement, special needs, and help foster community support during mileage requests.
