Doug Barnett Photographs and Scrapbooks, 1948-2001

An avid University of Michigan Hockey fan, Douglas Barnett served as official timer at hockey games from 1958 to 1983, and was a founding member of the Dekers club, a hockey booster group. The collection includes memorabilia and photographs collected over more than 40 seasons, much of it relates to the Dekers Hall of Fame. Barnett worked for the University of Michigan Mail Service and scrapbooks containing photos of mail service staff, equipment, facilities, staff events, and clippings.

This collection is comprised largely of material related to Barnett's involvement with the Dekers, the University of Michigan hockey booster club and scrapbooks relating to Barnett's employment with the University of Michigan Mail Service. The collection is arranged in the following series: Dekers Material, Hockey Media Material, Hockey Topical Files, Hockey Photographs and Negatives, Hockey Scrapbooks, and Mail Service Scrapbooks.

The majority of the hockey material is related to the Dekers Hall of Fame inductions. This includes copies of player biographies read at the induction ceremonies, as well as questionnaires the players themselves filled out, and related correspondence. Barnett was often involved in organizing team reunions, and gathering relevant material. His photo collection, primarily copies of university photos, spans the history of hockey at the University of Michigan, from the first teams in the 1920s to Hall of Fame induction ceremonies in the early 1990s. More than 60 individuals comprise the collection of player, manager, and coach photographs. Images of many of these individuals can also be found in the Hall of Fame series.

The three Mail Service Scrapbooks chronicle Barnett's employment with the University of Michigan Mail Service. The scrapbooks cover the period from 1948 to 1981. Included in the scrapbooks are photographs of mail service staff, equipment, facilities, staff events, and newspaper clippings.

University program designed to assist individuals having problems associated with alcohol, drug abuse, family or child related concerns, job dissatisfaction, and financial and legal difficulties. Also coordinated the Task Force on Alcohol and Other Drugs. Records document the development of an employee assistance program at the University of Michigan and its involvement in larger substance abuse issues across campus. Records include historical files, administrative files, collected reference materials, correspondence, Task Force on Alcohol and Other Drugs files, and Initiative on Alcohol and Other Drugs.

The records of the Faculty and Staff Counseling and Consultation Office (FASSCO) document the approach taken by the university to assist employees troubled by medical, financial, family or work-related problems. The records span the years 1973-1996, with the bulk of the materials covering 1980-1993. Documentation details the evolution and development of FASAP and its involvement in larger substance abuse issues across campus. The records are divided into six series: Historical Files, Administrative Files, Collected Reference Materials, Correspondence, Task Force on Alcohol and Other Drugs, and Initiative on Alcohol and Other Drugs.

Peggie J. Hollingsworth papers, 1976-2006 (majority within 1980-1997)

University of Michigan Assistant Research Scientist Emerita. Throughout her career, she was dedicated to the recruitment and retention of students and faculty of color, equal pay for female faculty and faculty of color, and was instrumental in establishing the U-M Academic Freedom Lecture series. The collection includes incoming and outgoing correspondence, committee communications and memoranda, Hollingsworth's notes, reports, agenda and minutes of meetings, conference materials, and clippings of articles.

Materials created and collected by Dr. Hollingsworth during her career at the University of Michigan. Records reflect the important role Hollingsworth played in university's efforts to attract and retain students and faculty from historically underrepresented and marginalized groups, her dedication to the cause of equal compensation for university women faculty and staff, and to the issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Personnel Office (University of Michigan) records, 1940 - 1999 (majority within 1958 - 1995)

Records of the Personnel Office include personnel policies and procedures; memoranda to the deans, directors and department heads; negotiations with and the administration of the contract with the Graduate Employees' Union; and activities with numerous employees' unions at the University of Michigan.

The Personnel Office records comprise 31 linear feet and span the 1940s through the early 1990s. These records document the activities of the office prior to its 1994 consolidation with the Affirmative Action Office. The office is now part of the Office of University Human Resources, with many of its original responsibilities performed by its sub-unit, Academic Human Resources.

The records have been filed as received from the unit in periodic accessions. As such, there is considerable overlap in topics and dates of coverage within the various records series. Files relating to specific promotion and tenure cases are in a separate record group, University of Michigan Office of Academic Human Resources Promotion Casebooks. A finding aid for these records is available in the Bentley Library.

Women's Activism Against Sex Discrimination: The 1970 HEW Investigation of the University of Michigan records, 1999-2001

A 2001 research project conducted through the University of Michigan Institute for Research on Women and Gender (IRWG) on the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare's (HEW) investigation of a complaint of gender discrimination at the University of Michigan in 1970. The complaint led to amendments to Title VII and to Title IX in 1972. Files include administrative files and audio cassettes of interviews.
